Review of Club Awards and Trophies, Jan 2025

with No Comments

The committee has carried out a review of trophies and awards, to reflect both the type of riding that members do today and the 100-year heritage of the club.  The main aim has been to ensure that as many of our trophies as possible are awarded each year based on the pattern of riding which members now partake in.  The key points are summarised below.

  • All current awards for time trials will continue to be made whenever there is a qualifying ride in an official time trial. However, where there is no such ride, they may be claimed by the member who records, and produces evidence of, the fastest time / greatest distance in another [non-drafting] ride or event.
  • Several trophies which have not been won in recent years will be reallocated to new categories.
    • The Club Championship trophy will now be awarded for what was previously the Short Distance Championship
    • The Short Distance Championship trophy will now be awarded to the winner of the men’s Hillingdon series scratch road bike competition
    • The Percy Marks trophy will be awarded to the winner of the Hillingdon series handicap road bike competition
    • The Road Race trophy will be awarded to the winner of the women’s Hillingdon series scratch competition
    • The Junior Championship trophy will now be awarded to the member who rides the highest total mileage (indoor and outdoor) in the year to 31 October (evidence to be provided to the Committee from Strava / other sources)
    • The Les Ames shield will now be awarded to the member who rides the highest total mileage in a 24-hour period (evidence to be provided to the Committee from Strava / other sources). This could include a 24-hour time trial or any other [non-drafting] ride.
    • The Norman Ware trophy will be awarded to the rider who carries out the most audacious ride of the year (to be decided by a vote of members)
  • We are introducing several further new award categories including the following (nature of the award to be decided by the committee, and other details to follow):
    • Most club runs completed during the year to 31 October
    • The winner of the women’s Hillingdon series scratch road bike competition
    • Men’s Kilo at Hillingdon circuit (1 ‘medium’ lap – standing start)
    • Women’s Kilo – as above.
  • In future, the criteria for each award will be published on the club’s website at the start of each season and a list of winners will be published following the end of each season (the club’s awards year runs from 1 November to 31 October). See this page for the current full list of trophies and awards, current trophy-holders and relevant club records.
